Pundit: This Arsenal midfielder looks a bit of a brat
Former Manchester United midfielder Johnny Giles has questioned the temperament of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka
Johnny Giles has revealed that his first impressions of Granit Xhaka was that the Arsenal midfielder was “a bit of a brat”.
The Switzerland international received the second red card of his Arsenal career last weekend after Xhaka was penalised for a two-footed challenge on Burnley midfielder Steven Defour at the Emirates Stadium.
The Arsenal defensive midfielder arrived at the north London club with a suspect disciplinary record after being sent off seven times in two seasons at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
Giles watched Xhaka perform for Switzerland during the European championship last summer as the retired midfielder worked as a pundit on Irish television channel RTE.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk about Xhaka on Thursday night, the ex-Manchester United and Leeds United midfielder didn’t hold back in his assessment of the Swiss star.
“The tackle he went into was totally stupid. He is inclined to do that anyway. I remember watching him for Switzerland last year and Liam Brady said that’s the lad who is coming to us [Arsenal],” Giles said.
“I saw him getting onto his team-mates that day. I said to Liam that he looks like a bit of a brat to be quite honest.”
Arsenal signed Xhaka as one of five new arrivals at the Emirates Stadium last summer.
The Gunners are in second place and eight points adrift of current leaders Chelsea.
