Pundit: This England midfielder has been an excellent Liverpool signing
Matt Le Tissier has been impressed with Adam Lallana's performance at Liverpool since his move in 2014
Matt Le Tissier says Adam Lallana has blossomed into an excellent signing for Liverpool.
The former Southampton captain scored nine times in 37 games in the 2013-14 Premier League season before Brendan Rodgers signed the attacking midfielder in a £25m deal to Liverpool from the Saints in the 2014 summer transfer window.
Lallana initially struggled under Rodgers and failed to tie down a regular starting spot in the Liverpool side due to his inconsistent performances on the wing for the Merseyside outfit.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s appointment as Rodgers’s successor has proven a turning point in the midfielder’s Anfield career as the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss continues to get the best out of Lallana.
Lallana netted seven times in 49 games in the 2015-16 season but the Liverpool number 11 has already matched that goal tally after just 17 fixtures in the current campaign.
While Le Tissier was disappointed to see Lallana leave Southampton, the Saints legend admitted that the midfielder has impressed at Liverpool.
“Lallana was probably the one I was most disappointed to see go. He was always somebody who I loved going to watch and I think he’s turned out to be an excellent signing for Liverpool,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“I’d imagine he’s one of the first names on Gareth Southgate’s England team-sheet and one of the few players who came out of the European Championships with any credit.”
