Pundit warns Jurgen Klopp about Liverpool’s tactics
Pat Nevin is unsure whether Liverpool are capable of carrying out their high press for 90 minutes
Pat Nevin has heaped praise on Liverpool for their high press game but has warned Jurgen Klopp that his players will struggle to carry out that tactics for 90 minutes.
Liverpool were widely regarded as the best side in the opening 45 minutes at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after James Milner broke the deadlock from the penalty spot following Paul Pogba’s handball.
However, Manchester United managed to get something of a stranglehold on the Premier League clash as Liverpool’s energy levels started to fluctuate before the introduction of Philippe Coutinho.
And inevitably, Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled for the hosts with six minutes remaining to salvage a point for Jose Mourinho’s men and extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Liverpool are still five points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United ahead of their next Premier League fixture against struggling Swansea City at Anfield next weekend.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, former Chelsea legend issued a warning to Klopp over his players’s ability to carry out the high press for 90 minutes.
“I have to say I was really impressed with Liverpool. How they chased it, how they harried and how they closed down for the first 50-60 minutes,” Nevin said.
“They can’t do it for 90 minutes. Time and again it catches up with them. But they’re willing to do it. I was really impressed with Liverpool.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
