Pundit warns Jurgen Klopp: You’d be daft to sell this Liverpool player
Ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton says Daniel Sturridge has an important role to play in Liverpool's title challenge
Chris Sutton believes Liverpool would be foolish to sell Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window.
The England international has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season after falling behind Roberto Firmino in the pecking order.
Sturridge has made some vital contributions to Liverpool’s title bid over the past few weeks after he helped to create Sadio Mane’s winner in the Merseyside derby.
The Liverpool striker scored the Merseyside outfit’s fourth goal in a 4-1 win against Stoke City on Boxing Day before he broke the deadlock in a 2-2 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday afternoon.
Sturridge has been linked with a potential move away from the Anfield outfit in the January transfer window amid a lack of playing time.
However, former Chelsea striker Sutton says Jurgen Klopp would be foolish to sell Sturridge this month.
“They can’t sell Daniel Sturridge. If Liverpool want to win the league, why would you sell Sturridge? With Mane going to Africa Cup of Nations, it would be daft,” Sutton told BBC 606’s podcast.
Sturridge moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from Chelsea in the 2013 January transfer window.
