Pundit: Why Tottenham are Chelsea’s biggest rivals for the title
Andy Hinchcliffe believes Tottenham Hotspur are Chelsea's biggest rivals for the Premier League title this season
Tottenham Hotspur will be Chelsea’s biggest rivals for the Premier League title this season, according to Andy Hinchcliffe.
The north London side blew the title race wide open on Wednesday night after Tottenham were impressive 2-0 winners against Premier League leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane.
The Blues made the short trip to Tottenham mid-week in search of a record-equalling 14th successive Premier League win but came undone against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
England international Dele Alli scored either side of half-time to secure three points and wrack up their fifth successive top-flight victory.
Tottenham hoisted themselves up to third place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea after 20 games.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, former Everton and Manchester City defender Hinchcliffe suggested that Tottenham could provide the biggest challenge to Chelsea’s title hopes under Antonio Conte.
“Pochettino has his way of playing, which he has had for a number of years. There are key individuals,” Hinchcliffe said.
“Harry Kane was really missed when he was injured. My main concern would be what happens if he is injured. Dele Alli is scoring goals at the moment but you need a top-class centre-forward regularly.
“They can ill-afford to be without him. I do believe the structure of this Tottenham side is amazing. They are the biggest threat to Chelsea in terms of winning the title.”
Tottenham signed five players in the summer transfer window after the north London side finished in third place in the table.
