Rio Ferdinand compares Man United to Liverpool ahead of Old Trafford clash
Rio Ferdinand believes that Jurgen Klopp has been raising expectations at Liverpool following his arrival in 2015
Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is raising expectations at Liverpool following his arrival at Anfield.
The German coach was appointed as the club’s new manager in October 2015 and has earned plenty of praise for the impact he has had at the Merseyside club.
Liverpool have been one of the Premier League’s most consistent teams this season and currently trail leaders Chelsea by five points heading into their showdown with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds head into that game on the back of their disappointing 1-0 loss to Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash on Wednesday night.
However, Manchester United legend Ferdinand feels that Klopp has had a hugely positive impact since taking over at Anfield.
Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, Ferdinand said: “With the team that Klopp is building, the expectations are rising around Liverpool.
“Expectations are nothing new for Jose Mourinho or United. I think Jose has had one of the hardest jobs out of the top teams in terms of personnel, changing the mentality at the football club, going against the philosophy that had been drilled in over the last couple of years, reshuffling things, and it was a huge job for him. It still is.”
Manchester United are currently sixth but know that victory over Liverpool would cut the gap to the Reds down to just two points.
