Rio Ferdinand talks up Man United’s showdown with Liverpool

Rio Ferdinand talks up the importance of Manchester United's crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday

Rio Ferdinand has talked up the importance of Manchester United’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to continue their recent good form under Jose Mourinho, with Manchester United having won their last six top-flight games on the spin.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are aiming to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Southampton in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men also dropped points in their most recent Premier League game when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Sunderland last week.

Liverpool are currently second in the table but Manchester United know that a win on Sunday would leave them two points behind Klopp’s men in the table.

And Ferdinand has talked up the importance of the game as the two bitter rivals prepare to do battle at Old Trafford.

Speaking to United Review, Ferdinand said: “This weekend’s game just grows and grows in importance.

“It was huge anyway because it always is but, when you consider the stakes for both teams, the talent on the pitch and the quality of the two managers, it’s a game which is just absolutely huge.”
