Robbie Savage names Chelsea signing as best player of 2016

The BBC Sport pundit singles out Chelsea's N'Golo Kante as the best player in the Premier League in 2016

Robbie Savage has named N’Golo Kante as his Premier League player of 2016.

The France international enjoyed a memorable calendar year after the defensive midfielder played a vital role in Leicester City’s run to the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.

Kante’s impressive performances earned the Frenchman a move to £32m move Chelsea in the summer transfer window despite Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy committing to the champions.

The 25-year-old has already made a huge impression at Stamford Bridge after establishing himself as a first-team regular under Antonio Conte alongside Nemanja Matic.

Kante even managed to score his first Chelsea goal in a 4-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in October.

The Blues finished 2016 on a high after recording their 13th successive Premier League win in a 4-2 win against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to BBC’s 606 podcast, former Manchester United midfielder Savage singled out Kante as the most impressive Premier League player in 2016.

“I’ve got to say Kante. He won the league with Leicester. He went to Chelsea and they’re top of the league by six points,” Savage said.
