Sol Campbell: What I really think about Diego Costa at Chelsea
The Arsenal and Tottenham legend discusses Diego Costa's return to the Chelsea team last weekend
Sol Campbell has praised Diego Costa for proving to his critics that he wants to be playing top-level football with Chelsea.
The Spain international was left out of the Blues squad for their trip to Leicester City earlier this month after Antonio Conte cited a back injury that was troubling the 28-year-old.
According to reports in the British media, Conte and Costa had clashed over reported interest from China in the striker, with speculation a £400,000-a-week contract was on the table.
However, Costa was restored to the Chelsea squad for the visit of Hull City last weekend and the striker repaid his manager’s faith with their opening goal in a 2-0 win against the Tigers.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about the striker, former Arsenal and Tottenham defender explained what he really liked about Costa’ performance in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Hull.
“That’s the real Diego Costa. He is out there hustling and bustling. He gets his goal. I love the mimicking of people talking too much. You’ve got to show people that you’re not listening to them and you want to play top football. There you go,” Campbell said.
Costa has scored 15 times in 20 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season.
Chelsea are eight points clear at the top of the table.
