Martin Keown makes prediction about Arsene Wenger’s line-up for Southampton v Arsenal
The Arsenal legend doesn't expect Arsene Wenger to take any risks with his starting line-up
Martin Keown is confident that Arsene Wenger will field a full-strength Liverpool side when Arsenal make the trip to Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday evening.
The Gunners will be taking on a buoyant Southampton side after the south coast club booked their place in the EFL Cup final thanks to a memorable win at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Republic of Ireland international Shane Long scored a late winner in a 1-0 win against Liverpool which saw Southampton progress thanks to a 2-0 aggregate victory over the record League Cup winners.
The Saints next challenge will be toppling an Arsenal side that won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015 when Claude Peul’s side entertain the north London outfit in the fourth round.
Speaking to The Daily Mail ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Southampton in the FA Cup, Keown made a confident prediction about Wenger’s line-up.
“There is absolutely no doubt Wenger will play a full-strength team. He wants his team to go on a good run and cannot afford any blips.
“Southampton will be buoyant but they could well be a victim of their own success this weekend. Both Arsenal and Southampton have been in Europe this season but the Saints’ League Cup run means they have already played three games more than Arsenal — and Claude Puel has the smaller squad.”
Arsenal beat Hull City in the 2014 FA Cup final before thrashing Aston Villa in the Wembley showpiece 12 months later.
