Michael Owen states revenge prediction for Southampton v Arsenal
The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker is backing Arsenal to exact revenge on Southampton in the FA Cup
Michael Owen is backing Arsenal to exact revenge on Southampton for their EFL Cup exit when the Premier League sides meet in the FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s on Saturday evening.
The Saints were 2-0 winners against the north London side in the EFL Cup quarter-final at The Emirates in November to deny Arsene Wenger to secure some much-needed silverware.
Southampton eased to a 2-0 aggregate win against Liverpool in the last four thanks to Shane Long’s winner in a 1-0 victory in the second leg of the last-four clash at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The south coast club will now face Manchester United in the EFL Cup final at Wembley.
Arsenal, meanwhile, moved to within eight points of Premier League leaders Chelsea thanks to their dramatic 2-1 win against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
Writing in his BetVictor column, ex-Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen tipped the Gunners to beat Southampton and progress to the fifth round of the cup competition.
“Southampton are looking to become the first side since Manchester United in the early 80s to knock Arsenal out of both domestic cup competitions in the same season following their 2-0 League Cup win at the Emirates at the end of November,” Owen said.
“The Saints didn’t miss Virgil van Dijk at Anfield but they may be more vulnerable to the Gunners counter attacks back at St Mary’s and I think Arsenal will get revenge for their League Cup defeat.”
