Steve McManaman singled out David Luiz as the man of the match after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian defender gave the Blues the lead in the 24th minute at Anfield when his superb dipping free-kick beat Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

The Reds managed to battle back into the game after half-time and equalised in the 57th minute when Georginio Wijnaldum headed home from close range.

However, despite having chances, neither side were able to score the winning goal late on as the two teams shared the points on Merseyside after Diego Costa missed a late penalty.

Former Liverpool star McManaman was particularly impressed by Luiz’s performance for Antonio Conte’s men at Anfield and singled him out as the man of the match.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, McManaman said: “He scored a wonderful goal but he also defended really well.

“He couldn’t do anything about the goal. I thought he exhumed a lot of calmness today.”
