Steven Gerrard explains why Liverpool should be feeling positive

The former Liverpool captain is backing Jurgen Klopp's side to finish in the Premier League's top four

Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool fans to look at the bigger picture despite their disappointing 3-2 loss to Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds suffered an embarrassing defeat by the Welsh outfit as Jurgen Klopp’s side missed the chance to gain vital ground on current leaders Chelsea.

Fernando Llorente scored twice in the first half to give Swansea a 2-0 lead but Roberto Firmino halved the deficit with a close-range header before the Brazil international netted a sumptuous volley to level the Premier League clash.

Liverpool failed to kick on and find a winner as Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a 74th-minute winner to leave the Reds feeling despondent.

Speaking during BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show after ex-Spurs manager Harry Redknapp tipped Liverpool to finish in sixth place, Gerrard said:

“I’ll go top four,” Gerrard said. “I don’t agree [with Harry].”

The former Liverpool captain went on to explain why the Reds should remain positive in the top-four race despite their 3-2 loss to Swansea.

“I disagree with Harry. I’ve got a lot of respect for Harry. I think Liverpool have had a bad day and it was a poor performance at home.

“Over the 90 minutes, they probably deserved to be beaten because they didn’t show enough at home.

“The big picture for Liverpool is very positive.”

Liverpool will host leaders Chelsea in their next Premier League game on Tuesday 31 January.
