Steven Gerrard: No-one can criticise Liverpool striker for this
The Liverpool legend heaps praise on Daniel Sturridge
Steven Gerrard has hailed Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge’s goal-scoring record despite failing to make an impression under Jurgen Klopp – so far.
The England striker has been a big talking point at the Anfield outfit in recent months after failing to secure a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up despite his return to fitness.
Indeed, Sturridge has scored two goals in 12 games in the Premier League this term, although seven of those appearances have come from the bench.
The 27-year-old has failed to hit the same heights that he reached during his first full season at Anfield when Sturridge scored 21 times in 29 games to help Liverpool get to the cusp of title glory in 2013-14.
Gerrard played the playmaker role in that Brendan Rodgers’s team as he helped provide Sturridge with chances to impress alongside the likes of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.
Speaking to BT Sport about Sturridge ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round replay at Plymouth Argyle, Gerrard spoke in glowing terms about the striker.
“”I used to love playing with him. His movement is phenomenal. One thing you can’t knock Daniel Sturridge for is when he gets his chance, he scores goals,” Gerrard said.
