Steven Gerrard reacts to Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea

The former Liverpool captain hails the home side's 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea on Tuesday night

Steven Gerrard expressed his satisfaction with Liverpool’s performance in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool were looking to end a three-game losing run against the Premier League leaders and reduce Chelsea’s advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s side to seven points.

However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after Brazil international David Luiz scored with a first-half free-kick which caught out an unprepared Liverpool number one Simon Mignolet.

The Reds hit back in the second half when Georginio Wijnaldum guided a close-range header past Belgium international Thibaut Courtois at the start of the second half.

Chelsea did have the chance to make it 2-1 in the closing stages of the game after the striker was brought down inside Mingolet’s area by Joel Matip but missed his ensuing spot-kick.

Speaking to BT Sport after the 1-1 stalemate at Anfield on Tuesday night, former Liverpool midfielder spoke in positive terms about the home side’s performance.

“I was pleased with Liverpool. I thought they started the game really well for 20 minutes and the goal was a big moment, it changed the game and gave Chelsea confidence. In the second half Liverpool pushed on and did really well to get back in the game,” Gerrard said.
