Steven Gerrard: This is what Liverpool must do to beat Chelsea
The Liverpool legend offers Jurgen Klopp's players some advice ahead of their home clash against Chelsea
Steven Gerrard has challenged the Liverpool players to regroup and make a statement against Chelsea on Tuesday night after their FA Cup exit.
Liverpool lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon to continue their miserable start to 2017 so far.
The Reds have only managed to record one victory in eight games in all competitions this term to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side facing the prospect of another season without silverware and a top-four finish.
Liverpool haven’t won a Premier League game since a 1-0 victory over title rivals Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
The 18-time English champions now have the daunting task of finding some confidence and form for the visit of the Premier League leaders at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Speaking to BT Sport after Liverpool’s shock result at home to Wolves, ex-captain Gerrard explained what type of reaction Klopp needs from his players.
“They’ve got major problems on the counter-attack and they’re about to play the best counter-attacking team in the Premier League,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“They’ve got to react and react quickly. They need a huge performance [against Chelsea].”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term.
