Steven Gerrard: What I really think about Jose Mourinho and Man United
Steven Gerrard has his say about Jose Mourinho's start to life in charge of Manchester United
Steven Gerrard has claimed that Jose Mourinho has brought “style” back to Manchester United following his appointment in the summer.
The Portuguese coach took over at Old Trafford back in May after the sacking of Louis van Gaal at the end of last season.
The Red Devils endured a stuttering start to life under new boss Mourinho as they struggled to find consistent form in the top flight.
However, Manchester United have been in much better form in recent weeks as they seem to have found their feet under their new boss.
Former Liverpool captain Gerrard believes that the Red Devils lost some of their identity under Van Gaal and that Mourinho has helped to restore that since his appointment at Old Trafford.
Speaking to BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Saturday, Gerrard said: “The fans weren’t happy with the style [under Louis van Gaal]. Now, Jose’s brought the style back.
“There’s a lot more pace in the team, they’re attacking better, they’re more creative.
“Manchester United fans are excited again but there’s a lot for them to do to win the league this year.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Van Gaal last season before Mourinho’s appointment.
