Steven Gerrard: What Liverpool must do to catch Chelsea in title race
The former Liverpool captain says Jurgen Klopp's side must stay within touching distance of Chelsea until their Anfield clash
Steven Gerrard has warned Liverpool that they must stay within touching distance of Chelsea until their Anfield meeting at the end of January.
Chelsea were 4-2 winners against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve as the Blues secured a 13th successive Premier League victory despite the best efforts of former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch.
The Reds moved to within six points of the Premier League leaders in the day’s late kick-off after a 1-0 win against title rivals Manchester City at Anfield after Georginio Wijnaldum’s winner.
Chelsea aren’t in action again until Wednesday night when Antonio Conte’s side make the difficult trip to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in search of win number 14 in their impressive sequence.
The west London side will take on Liverpool at Anfield on 29 January as Conte’s men look to avenge their 2-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side at Stamford Bridge in September.
Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, Gerrard offered Klopp’s side some advice in the title race.
“The key for Liverpool is to stay on Chelsea’s tails until they bring them here. That’s going to be a huge game,” said Gerrard.
