Paul Merson states his prediction for Sunderland v Liverpool
Paul Merson tips Liverpool to seal a 3-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League on Monday afternoon
Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to coast to a 3-0 victory over Sunderland in the Premier League on Monday and cut the gap to leaders Chelsea down to three points.
The Reds head into the game fresh from having secured an impressive 1-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield to keep themselves in the hunt for the Premier League title.
Liverpool are currently second but know that a win at the Stadium of Light would move them to within three points of Chelsea ahead of the Blues’ tricky trip to Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit look set to be Chelsea’s closest challengers for the Premier League title this season.
And former Arsenal man Merson is tipping the Reds to take all three points when they take on David Moyes’ men on Monday.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “David Moyes said Sunderland’s 4-1 loss at Burnley was one of the worst performances one of his teams has ever produced in the Premier League – and that’s a big statement because he’s been around for a long time.
“This is a perfect game for Liverpool and I can’t see anything but an away win because Sunderland need to go for three points and that will play into Liverpool’s hands.
“Jurgen Klopp has complained there was only 48 hours since the last match and that might be a leveller against some teams, but not for Sunderland, who have the skinniest of squads anyway.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place and without a trophy last season.
