Paul Merson states prediction for Swansea v Arsenal
Paul Merson is predicting that Arsenal will beat Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to beat Swansea City on Saturday afternoon despite Paul Clement’s appointment as manager earlier this month.
The former Real Madrid assistant manager was appointed as Bob Bradley’s successor earlier this month but is still waiting to take charge of his first official Premier League game after being in the stands for Swansea’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their last top-flight outing.
Arsenal have failed to win their last three Premier League games on the road following 2-1 defeats by Everton and Manchester City before coming from 3-0 down to salvage a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is confident that Arsene Wenger’s side will pick up three vital points in the title race in south Wales on Saturday afternoon.
“Swansea had a great result at Palace and a draw would be decent for them, but I’m backing Arsenal to win,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I like Paul Clement, I have met him and he’s a very good coach. I thought they brought him in thinking they are going to get relegated, but knowing he will be able to coach them up next season.
“He has worked at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and you have to be good to have coached those players. I hope he does well.”
Arsenal are in fifth place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
The north London side finished in second place in the top-flight table last term.
