Thibaut Courtois sets Chelsea target ahead of Liverpool showdown

Thibaut Courtois challenges Chelsea to beat Liverpool and continue their push for the title this season

Thibaut Courtois has challenged Chelsea to beat Liverpool and continue their march towards the Premier League title.

The Blues underlined their status as the firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season with a 2-0 victory over Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

That win left Antonio Conte’s men top of the table and eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal heading into their crunch clash with Liverpool at Anfield on 31 January.

Liverpool will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways in the Premier League after the disappointment of their 3-2 loss to Swansea City last weekend.

However, Courtois is confident that Chelsea can beat both Arsenal and Chelsea in their next two games to cement their status as the firm favourites to win the title.

Courtois told Chelsea’s website: “I don’t think we played our best game [against Hull] but we are pleased to get the three points.

“We wanted to win more games after the Tottenham result, and before we play Liverpool and Arsenal.

“Now we have a big gap, hopefully we can win against them [Liverpool and Arsenal] and put ourselves further away.”

Chelsea’s remarkable upturn in form this season has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they ended up 10th and without a trophy.
