Thibaut Courtois: This is what Chelsea must do before Liverpool showdown
Thibaut Courtois assess Chelsea's title situation ahead of their crunch clash with Liverpool at the end of the month
Thibaut Courtois wants Chelsea to have built as big a gap as possible to Liverpool ahead of their crunch clash with the Reds at Anfield later this month.
Chelsea are currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table and pulled seven points clear of Liverpool with a 3-0 victory over Leicester, before the Reds drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool will be looking to close the gap to Chelsea as quickly as possible as they look to keep themselves in the title race.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are aiming to keep their spot at the top of the table as they gear up for their clash with Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
And Courtois has warned Chelsea to keep their focus in the games leading up to their crunch clash with Liverpool at Anfield on 31 January.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website, goalkeeper Courtois said: “We just have to take it game by game but the most important thing is for us to go to Anfield [on 31 January] with the biggest gap possible.
“Saturday was a game where, if I’m sitting at home and one of our opponents is playing Leicester away, I’d think they could drop points, so it was very good for us to win the game, and win well.
“Now, at home against Hull we have to get the three points and then go to Anfield with this gap, because anything could happen there.”
Chelsea finished 10th and without a trophy last season.
