Thierry Henry: Training with this current Arsenal star at London Colney was unreal

Thierry Henry lifts the lid on what it was like to train with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal a number of years ago

Thierry Henry has admitted that training with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal allowed him to appreciate just how good the Germany international is.

Ozil has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top playmakers since his arrival at the north London club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

The World Cup winner is currently believed to be in talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending his contract with the north London club beyond the summer of 2018.

It remains to be seen whether Ozil will commit his future to the north London club in the coming weeks and months.

However, Henry has lifted the lid on what it was like to train with Ozil at London Colney during the MLS off-season a number of years ago.

Writing in his column for The Sun, Henry said: “Three years ago, during the MLS off-season, I was back in London and doing some training with Arsenal to keep up the old fitness levels.

“I rocked up at London Colney excited to see one player above all others doing his thing — Mesut Ozil.

“And, boy, I was not disappointed. What a player.

“In fact, the only disappointing thing was that he wasn’t good for my fitness because he kept pinging the ball straight to my feet! There was no need to run!

“Wow! The guy was unreal. It was a pleasure!”
