Charlie Nicholas states prediction for Tottenham v Aston Villa
The former Arsenal midfielder doesn't envisage an upset involving Tottenham Hotspur this weekend
Charlie Nicholas is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will avoid an upset against Aston Villa and book their place in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
The Lilywhites will host the Championship side in the weekend’s final slice of FA Cup action at White Hart Lane as Tottenham look to extend their winning run to six games in all competitions.
The north London side should be in fine form after their morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Premier League leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
Dele Alli broke the deadlock with a close-range header in added time at the end of the first half before the England international extended their lead with an almost identical goal after the break.
While Nicholas expects Pochettino make wholesale changes for the visit of Villa, the ex-Arsenal midfielder doesn’t envisage the Championship outfit causing an upset in north London.
“Mauricio Pochettino will make plenty of changes but I don’t see an upset here either. Steve Bruce isn’t an indecisive man and he won’t expect anything here,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Vincent Janssen and Kevin Wimmer will come in and the full-backs will change. I’d be amazed if Spurs don’t make at least eight changes.
“I’ve got a strong feeling that Villa will make the play-offs and, while they might want to maintain momentum, it’s a tremendously punishing division and Bruce will give a couple of players opportunities as well.”
Tottenham are in third place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 20 games.
