Mark Lawrenson states bold prediction for Tottenham v Chelsea
Pundit Mark Lawrenson is tipping Tottenham Hotspur to end Chelsea's winning run in the Premier League
Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to end Chelsea’s 13-game winning run in the Premier League at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night.
Antonio Conte’s side played out a thrilling 4-2 victory over Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve thanks to goals from Willian, Gary Cahill and Diego Costa.
Tottenham moved back to within 10 points of the Premier League leaders on New Year’s Day after Spurs were 4-1 winners against Watford in the London derby at Vicarage Road.
Spurs have scored 13 times in their last four Premier League games to help Mauricio Pochettino’s men piece together a four-game winning run.
Chelsea will equal Arsenal’s record of 14 consecutive Premier League wins if Conte’s side manage to beat their bitter London rivals on Wednesday night.
Writing in his BBC Sport column ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson tipped Spurs to cause an upset at White Hart Lane.
“Tottenham were impressive at Watford and they seem to have found a momentum now with Harry Kane and Dele Alli finding form,” Lawrenson said.
“I have a feeling they will halt the Chelsea surge which has been so impressive. To win 13 games in a row is just fantastic but Chelsea have some hard fixtures on the horizon.”
Tottenham lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in November after goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Victor Moses cancelled out Christian Eriksen’s opener.
