Wayne Rooney makes exciting prediction about Man United striker
The Manchester United captain is confident Marcus Rashford will taste plenty of success at Old Trafford
Wayne Rooney is backing Marcus Rashford to have a successful career at Manchester United.
The England teenager has endured a stop-start second season in the Manchester United first-team after Rashford established himself as an important member of the senior squad under Louis van Gaal last term.
Rashford scored two goals in his Premier League debut last year as the centre-forward helped Manchester United ease to a 3-2 win against bitter rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils striker finished with a credible return of eight goals in 18 appearances in all competitions at the end of his first season in the senior Manchester United squad.
However, Rashford has found his first-team opportunities limited under Van Gaal’s successor Jose Mourinho this term.
But Rooney is confident that the Manchester United teenager’s time will come at Old Trafford despite a frustrating campaign.
“I’m sure the likes of Rashford coming into the dressing room, they’re probably looking at the likes of me and Michael Carrick thinking ‘they’ve won five Premier League titles’. That’s the aim, that’s what you want to get to,” Rooney is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“He’ll have his time and I’m sure if he keeps doing the right things, going the way he is, then he’ll be a great player for this club and hopefully in 10 or whatever years more time he’ll be close to the record.”
Rashford has scored three goals and has made one assist in 17 games in the Premier League this term, although nine of those appearances have come from the bench.
