Wayne Rooney sends message to Man United fans about his next target
The Manchester United captain is determined to reach the EFL Cup final
Wayne Rooney has targeted the League Cup as his next Manchester United target after becoming the club’s record goal-scorer.
The Red Devils captain netted his 250th goal in a Manchester United shirt to surpass Sir Bobby Charlton’s record after Rooney levelled the Premier League clash in the fourth minute of added time.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind current leaders Chelsea with 16 games to play in the 2016-17 season.
Rooney will be hoping to secure a starting spot when Manchester United take on Hull City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at KCOM Stadium on Thursday night.
The England skipper started Manchester United’s 2-0 win against the Tigers at Old Trafford earlier this month.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website after his record-breaking goal, Rooney underlined his desire to reach the EFL Cup final at Wembley and secure his third League Cup winner’s medal.
“I think the next thing is the League Cup, we want to win it. The final’s in February and we’ve got a game on Thursday night to try and get there,” Rooney said.
“Every trophy is great to win in football and it’s obviously the next one we can win so that’s the focus, certainly on Thursday. We’re still in every competition we’ve entered this season. The Premier League will obviously be tough but in the competitions we’re in we feel we’ve got a good enough squad to push for those titles.”
Rooney has scored two Premier League goals in 18 top-flight appearances this term.
