Paul Merson states his prediction for West Ham v Man United
Paul Merson explains why he expects to see Manchester United beat West Ham on Monday afternoon
Paul Merson is tipping Manchester United to continue their good form in the Premier League by beating West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium on Monday night.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to make it six wins on the spin in the top flight after their impressive 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.
Manchester United are aiming to close the gap to the top four and know that a win over West Ham on Monday would move them to within 10 points of leaders Chelsea ahead of the Blues’ trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
Former Arsenal star Merson is fully expecting to see the Red Devils claim all three points against the Hammers in east London on Monday afternoon.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “Against Middlesbrough I saw the Manchester United that I’ve known for 15 years and played against when I was still playing.
“They were 1-0 down, but just pummelled the other team, throwing the kitchen sink at them, until they finally got the win. That shows what I’ve been saying about the Premier League this season; draws are no good and you HAVE to win football matches.
“Their attitude was they would either win 2-1 or lose 3-0 – and that’s what you need to do.
“They were outstanding and if they keep playing like that they should beat West Ham, even if they go behind.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season before the Dutchman was sacked and replaced by Mourinho back in May.
