Adam Lallana sends message to ex-Liverpool manager and Jurgen Klopp after new contract
The Liverpool midfielder pays tribute to Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp
Adam Lallana has paid credit to both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp after the midfielder signed a new Liverpool contract.
The England international put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the Merseyside outfit to end speculation linking the attacking midfielder with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Lallana was signed in a £25m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton after he netted nine times in 37 games in his last Premier League season at St Mary’s.
The 28-year-old struggled in his first season under Rodgers but has really come into his own since Klopp took over the reins of the Anfield outfit from the Northern Irish head coach.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website about the role that Klopp has played on the midfielder’s career over the past 18 months or so, Lallana was quick to credit Rodgers too.
“Well firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Brendan Rodgers for having the faith to sign me in the first place. I’m extending my contract today – but I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me to come to this club in the first place. As for the gaffer, I’m not sure there’s anything new I can say on him that hasn’t been said already by most, if not all, of our team.
“I heard Phil Coutinho’s comments after he signed his new contract and what he said about the manager echoed what we all think; he’s world-class, he’s a winner and we trust him completely. The manager is a special talent and we are lucky to have him here and it’s great he’s committed for the long-term as well. But I think the most important word with our manager is ‘trust’.
“We trust him and in turn he places a lot of trust in us – and hopefully we reward that on the pitch for him.”
Lallana has scored seven times and has made seven assists in 23 games in the Premier League in the 2016-17 campaign.
Liverpool are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
