Ander Herrera sends warning to Chelsea: Man United ready to retain trophy
Ander Herrera is hoping Manchester United can retain their FA Cup crown - beating Chelsea along the way
Ander Herrera has underlined Manchester United’s desire to retain their FA Cup crown after Sunday evening’s 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers in the fifth round.
The Red Devils have been making good progress in the cup competitions this season under Jose Mourinho after the 20-time English champions booked their place against Southampton in the League Cup showpiece.
Manchester United were 3-0 winners against Saint-Etienne in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s hat-trick.
Mourinho made some changes to his side for their trip to Blackburn and the home side made the breakthrough through Danny Graham in the first half at Ewood Park before Marcus Rashford equalised ahead of half-time.
Ibrahimovic scored his fourth goal in two games with 15 minutes to remaining to set up a quarter-final clash against Chelsea.
Speaking to beIN Sports after Manchester United’s 2-1 win, Herrera said:
“These teams are playing with everything against us but we can be happy with our attitude, we take this competition seriously because we are the holders.
“We want to win again at Wembley. Everyone is ready to play and some really important players were not on the pitch but the team was just as good. We need that from everyone.”
Chelsea secured their spot in the last eight by beating Wolves 2-0 at Molineux on Saturday evening.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table.
The Red Devils lost 4-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October.
