Antonio Conte delivers latest update on David Luiz ahead of Wolves v Chelsea

Antonio Conte delivers the latest update on David Luiz ahead of Chelsea's trip to Wolves on Saturday

Antonio Conte has revealed that David Luiz will be rested for Chelsea’s FA Cup clash against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday night.

The Brazilian defender has been playing through a knee injury in recent weeks – a problem he has been managing since the hectic festive period.

Luiz, who returned to Chelsea last summer, has been one of the Blues’ standout performers this season and has been a regular fixture in the starting line-up.

However, he has been playing with a heavily strapped knee in recent games as he bids to maintain his fitness levels.

And Conte has revealed that Chelsea have jumped at the opportunity to give Luiz some extra time off to recover in recent days.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference at Cobham on Friday morning, Conte said: “With David Luiz, we have an opportunity to give him a full week to recover well.

“All the players are in good form and the only problem I have is making the best choices for the game.

“His knee is OK, it’s improved a lot since the game at Man City.

“It’s important to keep the situation under control. He’s doing training sessions with the physical coach.”
