Antonio Conte says he is happy the January transfer window is over and the Chelsea boss can continue to work on getting the best out of his current Blues squad.

The west London side were linked with a back-up goalkeeper over the past week but a deal failed to materialise as second-choice shot stopper Asmir Begovic remained at Stamford Bridge despite speculation surrounding his future.

Chelsea did add one player to their squad after Netherlands Under-21 international Nathan Ake returned from a short-term loan spell at Bournemouth to bolster the Premier League leaders’s numbers ahead of the second-half of the season.

The Blues played out a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday night just hours before the January transfer window came to a close.

Speaking at his post-match media conference at Anfield, Conte explained why he was satisfied with his squad and was pleased to see the transfer window end.

“Our situation is this. No news. We are the same players that we played the first part of the season with. We now have Nathan Ake, our young player from our Academy, and then Kenedy and Musonda, who came back,” Conte said.

“We are the same players, we haven’t changed. I’m very happy because the transfer window is closed and now we can think also about the second part of the season. I’m happy to work with my players, I’m proud. But no new players for our team.”
