Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about John Terry
Antonio Conte reveals that John Terry is still a big influence at Chelsea despite his lack of playing time
Antonio Conte has revealed that John Terry has been “helping” the Chelsea boss a lot during his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea skipper made a rare start for the Blues on Saturday evening as he played the full 90 minutes and helped the west London side beat Wolves 2-0 in the FA Cup.
Terry helped the Blues keep a clean sheet during the game as Conte’s side set up a quarter-final showdown with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge next month.
The veteran defender has found his first team opportunities at Chelsea few and far between this season following Conte’s appointment last summer.
However, the Chelsea manager insists that the 35-year-old is still playing a big role at the club as the Blues chase a Premier League and FA Cup double in Conte’s first campaign in charge.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Conte said: “I think John Terry deserved to play this game [at Wolves], he played very well and I am happy for him.
“For me, he is a very important player, he is my captain and he is important on and off the pitch.
“He’s helping me a lot and I am very happy to have him in my squad and also to know this type of person.”
Chelsea take on Swansea City in the Premier League this weekend.
