Antonio Conte’s response when asked about Arsenal and Tottenham setbacks
The Chelsea boss delivers his verdict on the results of his title rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur
Antonio Conte played down the significance of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropping points in the title race on Tuesday night.
Chelsea consolidated their position at the top of the Premier League table after a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
Brazil defender David Luiz broke the deadlock with a powerful, swerving free-kick in the 24th minute against the run of play on the red half of Merseyside.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side responded in the second half through Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum after the attacking midfielder headed past Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois.
Arsenal had the chance to move to within six points of Chelsea but Arsene Wenger’s side suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Watford just days after putting five past Southampton in the FA Cup.
Tottenham, meanwhile, could only muster a goalless draw with Premier League strugglers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light to remain nine points adrift of current leaders Chelsea.
Speaking to BBC Sport after an eventful night in the title race, Conte refused to rule Arsenal and Spurs out of the title race.
“The best thing is to see ourselves, not the others. We stay top of the table and that is a great achievement but it is important to focus on ourselves,” Conte said.
“There are 15 games remaining and 45 points. It’s important to draw against a really good team and now we must focus on playing Arsenal next week.”
