Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Blackburn v Man United
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Manchester United's fifth-round clash with Blackburn on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to coast into the sixth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to continue their recent good form under new boss Jose Mourinho.
Manchester United took a big step towards reaching the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night thanks to their impressive 3-0 win over Saint-Etienne at Old Trafford.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit a hat-trick in that game as Mourinho’s men continued their march towards winning three cups this season.
Manchester United now turn their attentions back to domestic affairs and their trip to Blackburn on Sunday afternoon.
And former Liverpool man Lawrenson is tipping the Red Devils to secure their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup with victory this weekend.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “In terms of the depth of quality, Manchester United have as good a squad as any. Even if they make six or seven changes for this, they will field a team that would finish halfway up the Premier League.
“Blackburn are down in the Championship relegation zone, but they have had plenty of bad luck with disallowed goals and sendings-off in recent weeks.
“If there is going to be a big protest from the Blackburn fans against the Venky’s owners to coincide with United’s visit and the television cameras, that won’t help the players.
“The Ewood Park pitch is a large one which is not good for the hosts.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
