Carlo Ancelotti makes claim about Arsenal ahead of Bayern Munich clash
Carlo Ancelotti discusses an advantage for Bayern Munich ahead of their showdown with Arsenal this month
Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that the Bundesliga’s winter break puts Bayern Munich at a significant advantage ahead of their showdown with Arsenal in the Champions League this month.
The Gunners are set to take on the German champions over two legs for a place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
Arsenal will travel to Germany to take on Bayern on 15 February before the return leg at Emirates Stadium on 7 March.
German teams were afforded a month off over the festive period to recharge their batteries ahead of the second half of the season.
And Bayern boss Ancelotti feels that will put his team at an advantage ahead of the crunch clash with Arsenal later this month.
Speaking to Kicker, Ancelotti said: “The winter break is definitely an advantage.
“Just like the fact we play only 34 Bundesliga games instead of the total of 38 in England, Spain and Italy.
“Additionally, there’s no winter Premier League break. There’s two cup competitions to play in too [in England] — more games mean extra danger of players suffering injuries.”
Arsenal, who are currently placed second in the Premier League table, have been knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the last six seasons running.
