Pat Nevin has warned Chelsea that Tottenham are likely to be their closest rivals in the race for the Premier League title this season.

The Blues are currently the heavy favourites to win the top-flight trophy this term after their brilliant start to the new campaign under Antonio Conte.

Chelsea underlined their status as the main contenders to win the Premier League title this season with an impressive 3-1 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The west London side are nine points clear of second-placed Tottenham in the race for the top-flight title.

Chelsea return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Burnley, while Tottenham head to Anfield to take on Liverpool.

And Chelsea legend Nevin feels that the Blues are likely to be pushed closest by Tottenham in the coming weeks and months.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “Spurs are currently our nearest rivals but they have to deal with Gent in the Europa League as well as the small matter of travelling to Anfield this weekend.

“Klopp’s men will not be delighted at falling out of the top four this week and the thought of Man United and Jose hovering just a point behind them will have the same effect as a jockey’s whip on his mount.

“Man City will have to get ready for Monaco in the coming weeks and I will be popping over to Munich to catch Arsenal at Bayern. Once again, Arsenal reach the business end of the season looking at their weakest and this will stress them even further.”
