Chelsea star: What I really think about Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma
Asmir Begovic heaps praise on Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma following their impressive display for Chelsea alongside John Terry at Wolves
Asmir Begovic has lavished praise on Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma following their strong displays for Chelsea alongside John Terry last weekend.
The trio formed Chelsea’s defensive line-up at Molineux as Antonio Conte’s men secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Wolves.
Terry has found his first-team opportunities at Chelsea severely restricted this season under new boss Conte, while Ake has only recently been recalled from loan spell at Bournemouth.
Zouma, meanwhile, is working his way back towards full fitness after a lengthy lay-off with a knee injury.
And Begovic, who played in goal for the Blues at the weekend, has been very impressed by the trio’s performances when called upon by Conte.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Begovic said: “He’s a world-class defender, arguably the best defender in Premier League history, so he has talent and ability.
“When he’s called to play he’s reliable and he’s there for us to use. We have great competition for places, especially in that defensive area, so regardless of who is called upon to play we’re very comfortable.
“The three defenders in front of me – Zouma, Terry and Ake – were fantastic. They helped out a lot and they covered each other.
“They had to deal with a lot of high balls and crosses into the box and, as the game went on, we managed to stop those coming in. The three boys did really well.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Swansea City.
The Blues are currently flying high at the top of the table and are eight points clear of closest challengers Manchester City.
