Defender’s response when asked if Man United can still finish in top four
Phil Jones was disappointed with Manchester United's goalless draw with Hull City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night
Phil Jones believes Manchester United can still finish in the Premier League’s top four despite their disappointing goalless draw with Hull City on Wednesday night.
Jose Mourinho’s men were presented with the chance to make up some serious ground in the top-four race as Manchester United watched their rivals drop points.
Arsenal lost 2-1 to Watford at The Emirates, Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw with leaders Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t find a way past Sunderland in a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light.
However, Manchester United couldn’t muster a goal of their own despite chances for Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic made some brilliant saves to deny the hosts.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website after their 0-0 stalemate with Hull, Jones delivered his verdict on the result and how it could affect their top-four chances.
“Of course, but straight after the game you’re not looking too far ahead. You’re just disappointed with the game, how things have gone,” Jones said.
“I don’t think we played too badly tonight. We moved the ball well in patches but just couldn’t get the goal. It’s been the same story a few times here at Old Trafford.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea.
The Red Devils are four points behind the top four.
