Dietmar Hamann tells Liverpool to make this signing in the summer
Dietmar Hamman says Liverpool need to sign a new holding midfielder in the summer transfer window
Dietmar Hamann has urged Jurgen Klopp to make signing a new holding midfielder for Liverpool his top priority in the summer.
The Reds’s poor start to 2017 continued on Saturday when they slumped to a surprise 2-0 loss to Hull City to further dent their hopes of sealing a top-four finish this season.
Liverpool were left in fifth place in the Premier League table after the weekend’s games and facing an uphill struggle to secure Champions League qualification.
The Merseyside outfit have struggled to produce consistent displays this year and are yet to win in the Premier League in 2017.
And former Liverpool man Hamann feels that bringing in a new holding midfielder must be Klopp’s priority in the summer transfer window.
Hamman told BBC Sport’s Match of the Day 2: “My biggest worry with Liverpool is they are too weak, too soft in central midfield. They need a holding midfielder.
“I watched them against Chelsea, who had two proper players in Kante and Matic.
“In Liverpool I don’t see enough purpose, I don’t see enough structure.
“And that’s why they are in the position they are at the moment.”
Liverpool now turn their attentions towards their crunch clash with Tottenham at Anfield next weekend as they look to bounce back to winning ways in the top flight.
