Ex-defender reacts to Henrik Mkhitrayan’s world-class display in Man United’s 2-1 win at Blackburn in FA Cup
Mark Lawrenson was quick to lavish praise on Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan after his assist
Mark Lawrenson hailed Henrikh Mkhitaryan as world class after the midfielder’s stunning assist for Marcus Rashford’s equaliser in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.
The Red Devils were looking to extend an unbeaten run that stretches back to October but it was Blackburn who broke the deadlock through former Swansea City striker Danny Graham.
However, Manchester United were level in the 28th minute after Mkhitaryan produced a sublime defence-splitting pass with the outside of his foot for England international Marcus Rashford.
Mkhitaryan has now scored one goal and has made one assist in two FA Cup appearances this season, continuing his impressive form in all competitions in recent months.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson singled out Mkhitaryan for special praise for the attacking midfielder’s role in Rashford’s goal.
“It was started by the goalkeeper who threw it out to Mkhitaryan, and I tell you what, you will not see a better pass all this weekend. Absolutely world class,” Lawrenson said.
“I see loads of Championship games and you do not have to defend against passes like that.”
Manchester United were 3-0 winners against Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash on Thursday night.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
