The United States will take on Germany as the Fed Cup returns this week.

However, USA will be without the Australian Open champion and runner-up as Serena and Venus Williams miss the first-round clash.

Of course, the Williams sisters met in the Australian Open final in January in a pulsating showpiece in Melbourne between two of the sport’s greatest-ever players.

Serena won her 23rd Grand Slam thanks to a 6-4 6-4 win over Venus as the 32-year-old surpassed Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Majors.

The younger Williams sister moved back into the world number one spot after her straight sets victory in the first Grand Slam of 2017.

So with the Williams sisters sitting out the Fed Cup first-round tie, let’s have a look at who will be playing for USA for those interested in Fed Cup betting.

Well new USA captain Kathy Rinaldi has named the players involved for the best of five match-up against Germany in Maui, Hawaii.

There will be one Australian Open champion in the USA roster after doubles winner Bethany Mettak-Sands was included in the five-player team.

Alison Riske, 26, and Shelby Rogers, 24, will also compete alongside Mettak-Sands in Hawaii against the German.

Crucially, perhaps, Coco Vandeweghe is the fourth member of the team after she reached the Australian Open semi-finals in January.

The 25-year-old managed to beat Angelique Kerber in straight sets in the round of 16 at the Rod Laver Arena en route to the Australian Open semi-final.

However, Vandeweghe won’t have the chance to beat Kerber again after the world number two pulled out of the Fed Cup tie.

USA will still be facing some very dangerous players in search of a first-round win after Germany named Laura Siegemund, Andrea Petkovic, Julia Goerges and Carina Witthoeft in their team.

The winner of the first-round clash will face either Czech Republic or Spain in the Fed Cup semi-final.
