Harry Redknapp gives honest verdict on Arsenal situation: Arsene Wenger is a broken man
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager believes Arsene Wenger looks like a broken man at Arsenal
Harry Redknapp has described Arsene Wenger as a broken man at Arsenal after their Champions League humiliation on Wednesday night.
The Gunners suffered a resounding 5-1 defeat by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at the Allianz Arena.
Arsenal managed to cancel out Arjen Robben’s stunning first-half opener thanks to Alexis Sanchez’s penalty but Bayern eased to a comfortable first-leg win with four goals in the second half.
The north London are facing the prospect of exiting the competition at the last-16 stage for the seventh successive season.
To compound Arsenal’s misery, the Gunners are no closer to ending their 13-year wait to win the Premier League title following their last success in 2003-04.
Speaking to BBC Radio’s 5 Live Daily show, Redknapp delivered his honest verdict on the current situation at Arsenal.
“I think Arsenal need a change,” Redknapp said. “It’s difficult to do what him and Sir Alex Ferguson have done. A miracle.
“He’s been great, they’ve had great teams – the invincibles.
“But he looked like a broken man after that defeat (to Bayern Munich).
“Maybe it will be a great relief off his shoulders.”
Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind current leaders Chelsea in the title race.
