Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that moving to Manchester United was not his “dream” transfer.

The Armenia international became one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings at Old Trafford as the Portuguese coach brought him to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Mkhitaryan initially struggled to make much of an impact at Manchester United as he struggled to adapt to the rigours of English football.

However, the playmaker has found his feet in recent weeks and was named man of the match once again as Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium last weekend.

Mkhitaryan is thrilled to have moved to Manchester United but he admits that a switch to Old Trafford was not his “dream”.

Speaking to Bild, Mkhitaryan said: “United might not have been my dream club.

“But they have always been among the best clubs in the world for me.

“Manchester United are a bigger club than Borussia Dortmund, everyone knows that and we should just accept that.

“It was a new challenge for me that I could not turn down.”
