Ian Wright: Why I want this player to start in Sutton United v Arsenal

The former Arsenal striker is hoping Sutton United get the chance to pit their wits against Alexis Sanchez

Ian Wright has explained why he is hoping that Alexis Sanchez will start for Arsenal against Sutton United in their FA Cup fifth-round clash on Monday night.

The Gunners will be looking to make an immediate return to winning ways after the disappointment of a 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at the Allianz Arena mid-week.

Arsenal were 5-0 winners against Southampton in the previous round of the FA Cup thanks to Theo Walcott’s hat-trick and Danny Welbeck’s double in the first half at St Mary’s.

Non-League side Sutton United, meanwhile, upset the odds with a 1-0 win against Championship side Leeds United in the fourth round to set up their clash against the Premier League giants.

Sanchez has only made a substitute appearance in this season’s FA Cup campaign as the Chile international continues to excel in the Premier League following a return of 17 goals from 25 games.

Speaking to The Sun Goals podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright urged Arsene Wenger to give the Sutton players the chance to pit their wits against a world-class player such as Sanchez.

“I’d like to see Sanchez in that situation. He’ll probably play exactly the way he always does – it’s a football match to him. It would be a magnificent thing for Sutton to play against him,” Wright said.
