Jamie Carragher delivers verdict on Liverpool’s title bid
The Liverpool legend believes top four is now the priority for Jurgen Klopp's men
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool have a very slim chance of winning the Premier League title after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The Reds were looking to end a three-game losing run in all competitions against the Premier League leaders after crashing out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup over the past week or so.
And Liverpool looked to be heading towards a fourth defeat on the spin after the Merseyside outfit fell behind in the first half following David Luiz’s impressive free-kick.
The 18-time English champions did hit back in the second half through Netherlands international Georginio Wijnaldum after the midfielder headed home from close range.
Liverpool are 10 points adrift of Chelsea with 15 games to play in the title race after a fourth Premier League game without a win.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s stalemate with the west London side, Carragher delivered his honest verdict on whether Jurgen Klopp’s side still have a chance of winning the title this term.
“It hasn’t been a good January, and it leaves it with very little chance really. I think possibly they had to beat Chelsea to give them, and the rest of the league, an outside chance,” Carragher said.
“But I think for Liverpool on Tuesday night it wasn’t just the fact they didn’t lose the game, there’s a feel-good factor this morning because of a better performance, they came back after struggling, and I think most people will see it as a good performance and a good lift, more for the top four than for the title.
“The title is maybe a distant dream if you like. You hope Arsenal can beat Chelsea at the weekend, and maybe we could talk about it a little bit more then, but I think at this moment the rest of the sides are more worried about the top four and being left out of the top four than the title.”
