Jamie Carragher makes prediction about Liverpool signings this summer
The Liverpool legend discusses what players Jurgen Klopp could sign in the summer
Jamie Carragher is tipping Jurgen Klopp to look to sign defensive players in the summer transfer window given Liverpool’s problems at the back this season.
Liverpool managed to win just one of their opening eight games in 2017 after the Merseyside outfit had ended the year on a high following a 1-0 win against title rivals Manchester City at Anfield.
The 18-time English champions signed seven players in last summer’s transfer window, including German goalkeeper Loris Karius, Estonia international Ragnar Klavan and Schalke centre-half Joel Matip.
Liverpool conceded 27 times in their opening 21 games in the 2016-17 campaign, undermining their attempts to win a first Premier League title.
Speaking to Liverpool Echo about where Klopp could strengthen at the end of the current season, Carragher suggested that the Reds boss could sign some defensive options.
“I would think he’d have to look at the defensive side of things and the number of goals we concede,” Carragher said.
“That’s been the case for the last three or four years now. I still think the goalkeeping situation needs strengthening even if Karius of late has shown some good form. If that continues, that may make the manager maybe stick with him for next season.
“Possibly the left-back area too. James Milner has done really well, but he’s not an out-and-out left-back, so you’d look there.
“And also a centre-back. There could be changes in any position, you always look to improve, but certainly Liverpool must look to stop conceding goals.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table and outside the European places following a disappointing campaign.
The Reds finished as runners-up in the FA Cup and the League Cup last term.
