Jamie Carragher replies when asked if Man City will catch Chelsea
Jamie Carragher says it is unlikely that Manchester City will be able to catch Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title
Jamie Carragher believes that it is unlikely that Manchester City will be able to catch Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title this season.
The Blues have established themselves as the heavy favourites to win the Premier League this season following their brilliant form under new boss Antonio Conte.
The west London side are currently eight points clear at the top of the table as they look to win the main prize in Conte’s first season at the club.
Manchester City moved up to second place in the table on Monday night with victory over Bournemouth as Pep Guardiola’s men look to reignite their title challenge.
However, former Liverpool star Carragher feels that it is unlikely Manchester City would be able to catch Chelsea in the race for the title this term.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “When Pep Guardiola’s asked that question, he doesn’t really want to talk about it because he’s so pleased with how his team is performing, just thinking there is a big gap there but we don’t need to concentrate on that.
“He’ll be thinking we just need to keep winning games and see how close we can get.
“Eight points is a good gap but if you could get to within four or five points then you are starting to ask some serious questions.
“It’s still a massive ask but I totally get why Guardiola’s not getting involved in that kind of talk because he’s just pleased his team are playing well and winning games.
“If Chelsea do something stupid that’s down to them but he’s now putting things in place, maybe even more for next season. And they are getting confidence and belief looking forward to next season.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Wolves this weekend in the wake of their 1-1 draw with Burnley on Sunday.
