Jamie Redknapp: Liverpool missed this forward, he’s unpredictable
The former Liverpool captain underlines Sadio Mane's importance to the Anfield outfit
Liverpool have really missed the unpredictability that Sadio Mane brings to the Red team, according to Jamie Redknapp.
The Senegal international scored in his last appearance for Liverpool ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations after the winger netted in a 2-2 draw with Premier League strugglers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Mane left to go play at the major tournament after he scored nine times and made four assists in 19 games in the Premier League following his £34m switch to Liverpool from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
The 18-time English champions have only managed to win one game in seven games during Mane’s absence before the attacking midfielder returned ahead of the visit of Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Liverpool also crashed out of the EFL Cup and the FA Cup during Mane’s absence.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about Mane’s importance to Jurgen Klopp’s team, the former Liverpool captain explained just what the African brings to the side.
“Liverpool need to get Mane back on the pitch as soon as possible,” Redknapp said.
“I was at the Southampton game when they lost in the EFL Cup and you could see the difference he makes.
“One player shouldn’t make a team, but he gives Liverpool real unpredictability He’s a different asset to everyone else in the Liverpool squad.”
