Jose Mourinho reacts to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s display for Man United at Blackburn
Jose Mourinho delivers his verdict after Manchester United's 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Sunday
Jose Mourinho singled out both Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for special praise after the duo came off the bench to help fire Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Blackburn in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Marcus Rashford had cancelled out Danny Graham’s opener in the first half at Ewood Park before Mourinho opted to call upon two of his senior players in the 62nd minute.
The substitution paid dividends, as Ibrahimovic netted the winner in the 75th minute by scoring his 24th goal of the season.
And Mourinho revealed that he spoke to both players at half-time about their roles in the second half.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “When I have really important players on the bench then I can try to make an impact.
“Sometimes it doesn’t work, but it depends also on their mentality.
“Of course I spoke to Paul and Zlatan at half-time. In the moment of need they were more than ready to come with the right attitude for the team.
“So I am happy with the victory. We deserved to win.”
Manchester United will take on Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup when they travel to Stamford Bridge next month.
The Red Devils now turn their attentions back to Europa League affairs and their return leg against Saint-Etienne on Wednesday night.
